Introduction:
I believe Stunt Race FX is the second game to use the Super FX microchip. Anyways, this game is pretty much a racing game, but it has some stunt tracks. On these stunt tracks, you try to collect stars for more time and points. The object of the stunt tracks is to get through the whole course as fast as you can with as many stars as you can. Of course, you also have the standard race against time and other cars grand prix type thing on this game. This game also has tracks for two players racing each other at once. The vehicles you can choose are a 4X4 truck, a F-1 Racer, a Coupe, and once you beat all the speed tracks, a motorcycle. Each car has their own abilities.
Graphics [8/10]:
The graphics on this game are much better than the graphics on Star Fox, which was the first game to use the FX chip. The graphics on this game are very colorful and some tracks look really nice. However, they could have left the eyeballs off the different cars, it makes the game look kinda dorky. Because of this, you feel like you are playing a game meant for a 2 year old.
Music and Sound [8.5/10]:
The music on this game is not bad at all. Most of the music you hear fits the track you are on fairly well. The sound effects are cool too. You can hear your car crash and when you take so much damage you wreck, you can hear emergency sirens.
Gameplay [7/10]:
This is another game that is fairly fun to play by yourself, but isn't worth diddly with two players. If you want to play two players, you only have four different tracks to choose from. What's up with this? Why can't you pick any of the speed tracks for two player mode? For some reason, the made a section called "Battle Trax", which is the two player mode. However, in the one player mode, you have much more to choose from. Most of the tracks are in the "Speed Trax" mode. Speed Trax is a grand prix, where you race against the clock and other computer cars to get to checkpoints and finish the race. The Speed Trax mode has novice, expert, and master class tracks. Halfway between each class of tracks on speed trax, you get to drive trailer, which is very difficult to do. The trailer takes forever to accelerate and the game gives you a view where you can't see where you are going, but you can earn extra time and extra lives here. Once you finish the master class, you can access the motorcycle. You can also select "Stunt Trax" which is basically an obsticle course. In Stunt Trax, the object of the game is to collect as many stars as you can and get through the course as fast as you can. Once you finish all four stunt course, you can play a remote control course. The remote control course is alot of fun, because you finally get to knock around your computer adversaries. The object of the remote control couse is to ram into your computer opponents and smash them as quickly as possible. This game is alot of fun, but they could have made more tracks accessible in the two player mode.
Challenge and Replay [7/10]:
This game isn't too hard, but it does have a little replay value. Once you beat the speed trax part, you can use the motorcycle. The motorcycle is tough to control, but once you get used to it, you can set some records on each track that will be unbeatable.
Conclusion/Overall [7.5/10]:
This game is a fairly decent racing game. I don't think it's as good as Top Gear or Rock and Roll Racing, but Stunt Race FX is alot of fun. The stunt tracks are a good way to take a break from the traditional race against the cars and against time.
