Introduction:

What's better than getting three games in one game-pak? Well, getting
four, of course. The first three Super Mario Bros. are packed into
this game-pak. And if that's not enough there's the, never before
seen, Super Mario Bros. Lost Levels included. And if you thought that
was enough, hold on, there's more! The characters, the enemies, the
backround, and even the special effects (like the fire-balls) have
been greatly improved, over their NES counter-parts.
Graphics [7/10]:
If you've played any of the original Super Mario Bros.(SMB) games on
the NES, the first thing you'll notice about this game is the
graphical "make-over". Mario has more detail, and the backrounds are
amazing. No more simple blue back-drops. The backrounds have
magnificent hills, and sky-high pyramids, rising up in the backround.
The graphics aren't quite up to date, but they're a vast improvement
over the NES versions.
Music and Sound [6/10]:
I guess they can't improve everthing. The music is as sappy as it was
before. The music is slightly updated, but it's barely noticable. I
know that Nintendo couldn't have done a complete re-cap of the music,
that would ruin the over-all game, but they could have updated it a
bit more.
Sound falls under the same catagory as music. The sounds were only
updated slightly. Basicly the music and sound are the same old,
"Mario" music back in the day of the 8-bit Nintendo.
Game Play [8/10]:
There's a lot to love in this game. In SMB you have the original warp
zones, mazes, and fireballs, to shoot at enemies. In SMB2 there's four
characters you can play as through-out the game. In SMB3 there's
racoon, frog, and even hammer brothers Mario...there's so many
features in this (these) games. The Lost levels get frustating..but it
is a fun challenge. All of the games have exellent control, which
makes the game more fun to play! The only downside is the fact that,
almost every one has played these games before...which makes it a tad
bit old.
Challenge and Replay [10/10]:
Actually the challenge depends on which game you play. SMB 3 is the
most simple, SMB 2 is the next hardest, SMB (1) is pretty difficult,
while SMB The Lost Levels is extremely hard. But they can be played by
almost anyone, at any skill (excluding The Lost Levels). Difficulty
all depends on the paths that the player takes. i.e. warp zones.
There is great re-play on these games. Especially SMB 2 and 3. In
Super Mario Bros. 2 you can play as Mario, Luigi, Toad, and the
Princess. SMB 3 has very imaginative levels that keep you coming back
for more!
Conclussion/Overall [7.7/10]:
If you don't have these games for the NES, I'd suggest that you buy
this game. However, if you already own these games, don't expect much
more from it..except The Lost Levels, which is the second hardest game
I'v ever played. These games are just glorified 8-bit games. But they
are still good games, if you haven't played them. By the way, The
Lost Levels are VERY hard versions of SMB (1). The levels are totally
different, but they share the same story line...Bad Bowser, stole
Princess, yadda-yadda, blah blah-blah. ;)
