Super Nintendo Games

Name: Super Adventure Island
Introduction:

This game was the first Adventure Island game to appear on the Super NES which was followed by Super Adventure Island 2. This game was one of the first games that really showed off the SNES capabilities. The game consist of a jungle guy named Master Higgins who must rescue his girlfriend, Jeanie. In order to rescue her, he must defeat each boss.

Graphics [9.5/10]:

This game was released in the middle of 1992, but the graphics sure don't look that way. The graphics have incredible detail like the facial expressions on the enemies and Master Higgins. Other notable details are the lighting effects in the mine stage and caves. This game provides incredible animation and the backgrounds appear life-like instead of dull and boring. The bosses are huge and sometimes frustrating.

Music and Sound [9/10]:

The music is composed from the same guy that did Actraiser and Actraiser 2. The music varies in every stage. The music for the "Snow land" stage sounds very much like the beat of the Police's (a rock group) hit song "Roxanne". The rest of the score changes with the scenery of the game. The sound effects are ok, but not as good as the music.

Game Play [8/10]:

The control is pretty good in this game, but it's not as forgiving as the Mario games. For example, if you get hit just once with the exception of the skate board, your life is over and your power-ups are gone. Like Super Ghouls n' Ghost though, it makes you want to keep coming back for more because the game is so difficult.

Challenge and Replay [7/10]:

This challenge for this game is well balanced as the levels progress, so does the challenge. Plus, the game has over 6 levels of difficulty. The replay value is probably this games' weakest area because it does not offer features like 2 player simultaneous or different routes to take in the game.

Overall/Conclusion [8/10]:

This game provides some of the best elements for an action/ platform game. Everyone that I have shown this game to is amazed with the graphics and sound, especially when considering it's age. It has an arcade feel to it, but more importantly, it is an instant classic.
