Super Nintendo Games

Name: Mortal Kombat 2
Introduction:

After Shang Tsung was defeated on earth, Shao Kahn was very upset with the sorceror and was about to destroy him. However, Shang Tsung then came up with a plan to hold the next tournament in the Outworld, so not only does Shao Kahn spare the sorceror's life, he restores his youth as well. You get to pick from 12 warriors including Shang Tsung the battle Kintaro(Goro is missing), and then Shao Kahn himself. You must risk your life and soul to defeat the evil lord of the outworld, Shao Kahn. The 12 warriors you get to choose are Liu Kang, Johnny Kage, Kung Lao, Reptile, Sub-Zero, Scorpion, Milleena, Kitana, Baraka, Jax, Rayden, and Shang Tsung.

Graphics [8/10]:

The graphics in this game aren't bad, but they aren't that outstanding either. It is a pretty good translation from the arcade, but some of the characters look a little blurry. I think the animations in the game are somewhat jerky too and not real smooth. The backgrounds for this game are pretty good. The read cool thing is, there is alot of blood that spills out of the characters during combat. All the special effects from weapons are cool too.

Music and Sound [7/10]:

Most of the rating here would have to be for the sounds. I think all of Shao Kahn's taunts are great, and I think his voice his perfect. The sounds Kintaro makes by growling and the stomping sounds he makes are intimidating. Each of the 12 characters have their own sounds too. However, the music for the different backgrounds pretty much all sound alike. This game doesn't have much in the music department.

Gameplay [3.5/10]

This game is just plain lousy in the one player mode. For starters, you can't tell the difference between the different difficulty settings. Kintaro is nearly impossible even on "Very Easy." What this game does is adjust the first couple of people you fight to the setting you picked, but the rest of the game doesn't change no matter which setting it is on. Also, fighting the computer is just ridicuous, as they can throw you when you are in the middle of throwing an uppercut or using a sweep. This is almost physically impossible! All the computer opponents do is run up to you and then throw those cheap punches, and there is nothing you can do about it after the first one connects. This game has way too many cheap moves which is why this game has no gameplay rating. This game has a Friendship and a Babality, but they can only be used if a punch was not thrown in the fight. That is so retarded! This game is nothing more than an attempt to sucker more money out of you by making you buy a strategy guide because the instruction manual doesn't tell you any finishing moves. The finishing moves are what makes Mortal Kombat so popular, and even when you know the codes, they are hard to pull of because you have to hit 20 buttons in a five second time frame. This game sucks! It should be called "Moron Kombat 2-The attempt made by Midway to sucker people out of their money by selling this piece of trash for a game". Alas, I fell for it and have a Mortal Kombat 2 strategy guide.

Challenge and Replay [10/10]:

This game has plenty of challenge because it is hard to beat Kintaro even on "Very Easy." I have beaten this game, and Shao Kahn is not nearly as hard as Kintaro. There is some replay because you get a different ending for each of the 12 characters. There are also three different hidden characters that you can fight, and two of them are hard to get. Smoke is pretty easy to find, but Jade and Noob Saibot are harder to find.

Conclusion/Overall [7/10]:

Sorry, Mortal Kombat fans, but I'm not going to give this game a high rating just because Mortal Kombat is so popular with so many people. This game has lousy gameplay with too many cheap moves. The special effects and finishing moves are cool, provided you can pull them off. Some finishing moves are fairly easy to perform, while others are just ridiculous. This game would be alot better if the one player game was actually different when you change the difficulty settings. The only good thing about this game is the amount of blood, different endings for each character, and the secret moves and characters on the game. Outside of that, I say flush this stinker down the toilet.
