Introduction:
After Mega Man 6, it looked like Mega Man had finally put Dr. Wily in jail for good. Everything seems peaceful until 6 months later when 4 robots hidden in a secret laboratory activate and begin looking for their master(insert forebodding music). This only SNES Mega Man game(not counting the X series) is pretty good, it introduces some new characters to the saga. Bass and Treble are more or less an evil version of Mega Man and Rush, of course you don't know this at the beginning though. Then there's Auto, Dr. Lights assistant robot, he runs the shop. And you can't forget about the robot masters! Freeze Man is the cliche "cold" robot in the MM series. Cloud Man, has no legs, he just floats around on his cloud. Junk Man is made of well, trash. Burst Man is pretty generic looking but shoots bubbles with bombs inside of them. Pretty coo. Slash Man has claws and shoots red, gooey crap at you. Spring Man looks like just how he sounds. Shade Man is a vampire. And Turbo Man is definately the coolest, he turns into a race car! Mega Man 7 takes you back to the NES MM games. It's not the darker X stuff. Just good ol' Mega Man action!
Graphics [8/10]:
Nice, big and colorful. The characters animate extremely well. The game has the "cutesy" look of the NES games, almost even more so. The weapons look nice, but there aren't many special effects. The bosses look great and a lot of them are huge.
Game Play [9/10]:
It's Mega Man, how could you NOT like it? There is an easy intro level just like the X games. Instead of being able to choose from 8 stages at the beginning, you can only choose 4. After you beat those 4 you go onto the rest, then Dr. Wily's skull castle. Gameplay wise, the game isn't all that different from the others. Sure, there is a new Rush search ability(really cool by the way, he finds hidden items!) and the Rush adapt suit(which is from MM6), there's a store where you can buy items too, but nothing much has changed from the previous ones. But it's good, incredibly solid gameplay, so you won't care.
Music and Sound [5/10]:
The sound is Mega Man stuff except it's 16-bitified. It's cutesy, and there's nothing digitized, so it's not that impressive. The music is nice, it fits the levels well. I like the music in the robot museum level but nothing really knocked my socks off. It's a shame that the music in the series wasn't any good after MM3...
Challenge and Replay [7/10]:
The game is challenging, but you've seen harder, no doubt about it, you'll wanna play until you finish the game though. Unfortunately, after you beat it, there isn't much else to do.
Conclusion/Overall [7/10]:
Fun, great game, but unfortunately, it isn't for everyone. If your turned off by lighter hearted games, you probably won't like this one. But most people and diehard MM fans(like me ^_^) will love it. It's really overpriced at Funco so I recommend you look for it somewhere else, like a video store that's getting rid of their games.
