Introduction:
Beings of pure Magic once ruled the world with power and command. But
power rarely leads to contentment...
A dispute amongst these beings, turned into an all-out-war. Beasts of doom, known as Espers, were
created and unleashed to do the bidding of their masters. This "War of
the Magi" reduced the world to smoldering rubble. When it ended, the
Espers were gone, as were most of the citizens of the world.
Many centuries have passed since the war. Civilizations have rebuilt
with iron, machines and technology. For years the Espers have existed
only in ancient legends. Now, an Esper has been discovered and the
forces of magic are beginning to return. The risk of another, more
devastating war is growing. The future....
The above, is the opening story, to Final Fantasy III. This was the
first RPG that I've played. One of the first things that I noticed
about this game was the opening story-line(Above). It was only the
set-up story but yet, it already had a better story than most games.
But then there is the actual game story. Which is so large and
intricate, you're drawn into it.
This is the third game in the popular Final Fantasy game series. Final
Fantasy III is the Best RPG on the Super Nintendo. In fact, I'll go as
far as say, "It's the best game on the System. Of corse, this is only
my opinion, but anyone who is even remotely interested in RPG's will
love this game.
Graphics [10/10]:
The first thing everyone will notice with this game is the small
characters, that they play with. At first glance they looked sort-of
cheap, but after a while, you realize the incredible detail put into
the characters. Every character, fourteen in all, has a unique look.
There are several types of screens. The diaganal over-head world map,
towns, caves and castles. The battle screen is a side view of the
battle feild. Amazingly, though, your character always is the same
rendering. Meaning that your characters depiction never changes..no
matter what screen your on.
The buildings are graphically awsome. Sometimes it almost looks like
the designers used a different graphic for each brick or board on a
building. They used different, shades and colors to give variety on
different kinds of buildings.
The backrounds of the battlefields change depending on what type of
area your in. There's a big variety in the area's you fight in.
There is a HUGE variety of enemies. The enemies consist of renderings
that resemble, really cool fantasy art. There are so many different
types of monsters you can meet in this game, that I don't know if you
could ever find them all!
The magic is one of this games strongest, graphical points. Every
magic spell, from the mighty Ultima to the lowly Ice1, has it's own
look. No matter what the size of the spell they all look awsome.
Music and Sound [10/10]:
The best music ever put into a game. Square-Soft definatly did a great
job on hiring musicians. The music changes all the time, you get to
know the music, but it isn't play to the extend that you want to shut
off your speakes. I've never played this game without the sound,
because of one simple reason. It's too good to turn off!
The Sound effects on this game are also very good. They're nopthing
compared to the music, but they're still good. Most of the different
types of weapons have their own sound as they cut through the air and
hit the enemies. All of the magic spells have different sounds, as
well. There are so many sound effects in this game, that's just one of
the many reasons I like this game.
Game Play [10/10]:
This game has everything. The story line is enough to keep you playing
on the edge of your seat. But there are so many other things that make
Final Fantasy III so fun. There's twelve playable characters, plus two
semi-hidden characters. Every character has his/her/it's own unique
attitude, and abilities. Each character can be equiped with weapons,
sheild, armor, helmets, relics, and the list goes on. And for each
catagory, there are so many items. Literally hundreds of weapon's and
armor, ect, to use with your characters.
There's over fifty magic spells, each unique in it's own way. There's
secrets in every inch of Final Fantasy III. So many, that I doubt
anyone has ever found them all.
The controls are easy to grow accustom to, and great to handle.
There's even an optional two-player mode, Where you can delegate
certain characters to another player, during battles.
Challenge and Replay [10/10]:
This game is tough, no matter how many times you play it or how old
you are. There are points in the game that you die, it always happens,
but you learn and continue on. FFIII is the perfect mix of difficulty,
it's not easy but it is very beatable.
I've played the game about eight times through. Every single time,
I've found something new...Another weapon, a secret level, a new move.
FFIII seems almost endless. There's a variety of places you can go,
like the colluseum, and people to meet. The only problem with it's
Replayability, is the fact that, once you've beaten it you know what
happens. But there's always something you didn't catch on to before.
Conclussion/Overall [10/10]:
The greatest game I've ever played. Final Fantasy III beats the pants
off of Final Fantasy VII. So what if the graphics aren't as
impressive? The game play is what counts. Right? There is so many
things that make it so good. The music, is a masterpeice. But I think
what keeps me coming back to this game is the characters. I'll never
be able to forget them. Every last character has a memorable
personality, and attitude. That along with it's great story line,
makes Final Fantasy III my favorite game.
