Introduction:
This game certainly is a good update of the part one. The incredible RAREWARE crew
has done it again. The sequel to Donkey Kong Country trully brings all the goodness
of the previous part plus some more new moves and characters, and the amazing ACM
graphics seem to be improved. So what's the story with Donkey Kong Country 2, anyways?
Donkey has been kidnapped and inprisioned by the evil K. Rool, and it's up to Diddy and Dixie
to rescue him or... :)
It took me quite a while to save up the money for this
great cart and I can truly say that after buying and playing it I am very pleased
and satisfied with my choice of game, and I can't wait to play Donkey Kong Country 3! :)
Graphics [10/10]:
Like my mark for the part one, this one deserves a straight 10 too! The ACM graphics have truly
revolutionazed the Super Nintendo 16 bit graphics and view on its games. The characters in this game look so sharp
and sleek, it can easily make you think that you're watching and playing a cartoon. :) From the
dark waters, rainy/windy/sunny places, scary Kremlings' ships, to volcanoes, rollercoasters, swamps, sticky
places, K. Rool's castle, and lots of more wicked environments, this game simply has it all in picture
perfect. Diddy Kong is pretty much the same in movements an abilities like in the part one, but the
RAREWARE were kind enough to introduce a totally new character in this game, the Dixie Kong! Dixie
is Diddy's girlfriend by the way (Duh!). :) Dixie can carry things, throw them at the enemies, make a
short propeller-flight by swinging her pony-tail (a very useful feature at some places). As for the
Kremlings, they seem to be more unpredictable in the sequel than in the first part. Some unexpectedly
strike at you (especially the bosses), you don't even know what hit you! ;) Also, the bosses look
very improved in the sequel, very sharp and well animated. Some animal sharacters even help you out
pass some difficult levels. There's the rhino, the spider, the parrot, the fish, the snake (I'm not
telling you thir names, no way! Play the game to find out!) :)
Music and Sound [10/10]:
The "quality" of the sound I'd say is pretty much the same as in part one, but the melody
of the music tracks in this game is just amazing, much improved then from before! I've lost
a lot of lives in this game just because I enjoyed the music of it too much! ;) It is quite
possible that this game at least enters in the 15 best SNES games list, judging by its sound
and music quality!
If there's rain in this game in a level, you'll hear rain sound just as in real life. Thunders
rumbling! :) Windy levels, can you guess? Wind! :) Just like in real life. Incredibly amuzing
to listen while playing. Kremlings feature some cool, scary sounds, you never know what they are
up to! ;)
Game Play [9/10]:
Almost all the people who've played this game claim that its gameplay is much better than part one.
Well...it's kind of true but... ;) The first part also got 9 for the gameplay, and it seems to
me that the second part does actually improve the gameplay of the first part, but just not enough
to get 10 points, in my opinion. Donkey Kong Country 2 is harder than the first part, it has got
more secrets and secret levels. Actually, it's even got a whole secret island! It took me quite a
while to finish this game and I liked it. It was not just another hard game that actually gets you
away from it by its hardness, no, this one keeps you playing until you finish it. Bosses are harder
than ever, some strategic moves have to be involved against them. Bravo to RAREWARE for the gameplay!
Challenge and Replay [10/10]:
After finishing this game I felt like I should play more, just so I could say that I finished
all of it. Another improvement from the part one. The secret levels are the highlits of Donkey
Kong Country 2. They feature entirely different places and graphics, everything to make you feel
challenged and play it again. The catch is that they are twice as hard as the normal levels so that
makes it even more fun. :) If you manage to beat all of the secrets there's a different ending of
the game (Lord Nazerous says so, I'm still trying to beat all the secrets!) so try it and see. :)
Conclusion/Overall [9.7/10]:
Donkey Kong Country 2, like the first part, is also a must have. Very few video games in general
provide this much fun, well designed and original characters, and wicked gameplay. We at the Super
Nintendo Zone love this game and the whole series, and all we can say is "two thumbs up!". Get it,
play it, get it, play it, get it, play it, get it, play it!!! :)
