Super Nintendo Games

Name: Contra III: The Alien Wars
Introduction:

February 14, 2636... Jimbo and Sully, descendents of special agents Scorpion and Mad Dog, must save Neo City from the evil forces of Red Falcon. The technology is more advanced, the enemies smarter and the means of a win are more insane than any other the brothers have faced before. Only the most skilled and quick of reflexes can defeat Red Falcon and his allies.
Contra III is purely an Action game. This game can be played by either 1-Player or 2-Player simotaniously. There is no rating for the game, but I believe it deserves a 'K-A' rating for very mild animated violence. (Robots being blown up by machine guns and other weapons.)

Graphics [7/10]:

Contra III was one of the first games on the Super Nes System. At the time, the graphics were rather impressive, and they still are. But they don't quite live up to the full potential of the system's highest standards.
There's many instances of Mode 7 graphics incorporated in the game, which give it a sence of realism. Also some of the explosions and how some of the end bosses just "rip their way onto the screen" has been put together very well. Unfortunatly, it lacks a look 'non-flat characters' and the colors seem overly bland sometimes.

Music and Sound [7/10]:

The music of Contra III is comprised of your typical heavy bass to boost the 'feel' of the action. While this technique is done rather well, there is a lack of more than two or three 'instruments' playing at once, leaving some of the music sounding almost hollow. The sound effects gave a more appealing feel to me, than the music did. The weapons and the enemies have their own unique explosions and movements sounds that increase the vividness of the game's atomosphere.

Game Play [8/10]:

First off, I want to say that the 1-Player Co-op mode really adds the game's fun factor. But whether you're playing 1 or 2-Players, the game still rocks. The control that you have over these character's movement is amazing. You can dodge fireballs, take out a group of Snipers, and land on a three inch slab of rock between moltent lava, ALL IN three seconds! The game play is intense, it never gets boring. (But it does get hard.) You can o some crazy moves which include clinging to walls, using enemy machines as your own and more! And the enemy never stops coming, not until the very end. Four of the six missions are side scrolling levels in which you jump and manuver while fighting the enemy armata. The other two levels are over head levels where you must destroy certain key ememy weapons and machines to continue on to the next level.

Challenge and Replay [9/10]:

The game has three difficulty settings, Easy, Normal and Hard. But even the easy setting is TOUGH! And to make matters even worst, you can only get the 'real' ending by beating the game on the Hard setting. Speaking of the replayability, because of the different endings on each level setting... the replay factor really gets a boast. The game can become frustrating and annoying when it gets hard at times.... but it's always really fun to play!

Conclusion/Overall [7.7/10]:

Contra III is not for the beginer player or the novice player. It's been designed for the Hard-Core player who knows the ins and outs of V-games. For anyone unsure about this game, I'll give you this advice; If you like pulse pounding HARD action, get this game. If your kinda good or even pretty good... you're going to get frusterated with this game. (but it might FORCE you to learn to play better. Have fun... with caution. :)
