Description:
Nintendo introduced Tetris Attack to the U.S. in the early '90s. It had little in common with the block-dropping classic, Tetris, but gamers remember it as one of the best puzzle games of that era.
Fast forward to the new millennium. Totally revamped and sporting the red-hot Pokémon license, Pokémon Puzzle League features the familiar Tetris Attack game at its core. Already a holiday bestseller on the N64, addicts can get their fix anywhere with Pokémon Puzzle League on the portable Game Boy Color. The game lost little in its transition to the small screen. Pokémon Puzzle League ranks as one of my favorite puzzle games on the handheld system.
Game Features:
- Rearrange rising colored blocks and make them disappear before they hit the top
- Battle other "trainers" by sending "garbage blocks" to their screen (win the match and take their Pokémon!)
- Play in many game modes including Challenge, Puzzle, Time Limit and more
- Take on a friend in the awesome Vs. Mode (Game Link cable required)
Things to keep in mind:
Yes, you'll see and hear the cheery Pokémon throughout the game. But their presence is cosmetic. Don't expect Pokémon-style action here. If you want more traditional Pokémon gameplay, choose Pokémon Gold or Silver.
Who would enjoy this game?
Almost anyone can play and enjoy this game. Best of all, you don't have to be a Pokémon fan. Also, it's a great choice for parents concerned about the mild violence found in the Pokémon franchise.
Bottom Line: Don't expect a traditional Pokémon game. Pokémon Puzzle League is an incredible puzzle game - rivaling even the venerable Tetris DX!
